Aaron Whaley Obituary, Death – Sevier County is mourning the loss of a dedicated public servant, Sgt. Aaron Whaley, who passed away on Saturday after being hospitalized for a stroke earlier in the week. Sgt. Whaley had been an integral part of the Sevier County Sheriff’s Office since 1997, and his impact on the community and his colleagues was immeasurable. Sheriff Michael Hodges shared that Sgt. Whaley suffered a stroke at his home on Thursday of the preceding week and was subsequently being treated at Fort Sanders Regional Medical Center. Hodges, who had partnered with Whaley at the department before both were promoted, spoke highly of the late sergeant’s unwavering dedication and dependability.

“If you needed him at 2 in the morning, he’d be there. If you were working, he’d be there just as quick, so just a real dependable guy,” expressed Sheriff Hodges. The void left by Sgt. Whaley’s absence was palpable within the department, highlighting the profound impact he had on his colleagues and the working atmosphere. In response to the tragic news, the community in East Tennessee has rallied together to support the grieving family. Local businesses, such as Chick-fil-A, have displayed signs expressing their solidarity and encouragement. The sign at the local Chick-fil-A reads, “Pray For Hambone,” a nickname affectionately given to Sgt. Whaley by his grandmother.

To further aid Sgt. Whaley’s family, the sheriff’s office initiated fundraising efforts by selling t-shirts and sweatshirts. The shirts are priced at $20, and sweatshirts at $35, with all proceeds going towards supporting the late sergeant’s family. The response from the community has been overwhelming, with over $3,000 raised so far, and donations are still being collected.

Individuals interested in purchasing merchandise or making monetary donations are encouraged to visit the sheriff’s office directly. Additionally, Citizens National Bank is accepting monetary contributions; donors are asked to specify that their donation is for Aaron Whaley when making a deposit at any bank location. The outpouring of support reflects the deep appreciation and respect the community holds for Sgt. Aaron Whaley’s service and legacy.
